Description

Echinodorus radicans is one of the most dramatic and visually commanding sword plants available, producing large, broadly oval green leaves with an imposing upright form that can reach 40–60cm in height. A native of Central and South America, it develops into a substantial specimen given time and the right conditions — a true centrepiece plant for larger aquariums.

Medium light, no CO2 required, and planted in a nutrient-rich substrate with root tabs near the roots. Echinodorus are heavy root feeders and respond more to good substrate nutrition than to liquid fertilisation. Growth is steady and reliable once established.

Plant in the background of the aquarium. Propagation is via daughter plants that form on flower stems — detach once they have 3–4 leaves and visible roots, then replant.
