Description

Echinodorus reni is a medium to large sword plant with broad, oval to heart-shaped leaves in deep green, often developing subtle reddish-brown tones on new growth. It forms a full, spreading rosette that creates strong visual presence in the background of a planted aquarium without being as overwhelming as the very largest Echinodorus species.

Care is undemanding. It grows well under medium light without CO2 injection and is tolerant of a range of water conditions. As with all sword plants, it benefits significantly from a nutrient-rich substrate or the regular addition of root tabs to fuel its active root system.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Echinodorus reni typically reaches 30–40 cm and suits aquariums of 150 litres or more. Used as a centrepiece or background anchor, its broad, lush foliage provides excellent natural cover for fish and visual weight to the rear of a layout.

How large does Echinodorus reni grow?
