Our Bottle Terrariums are individually planted with colourful Fittonia and soft moss to create a compact display that looks great on a desk, shelf or windowsill.
Fittonia naturally enjoys warm, humid conditions, making it particularly well suited to life inside a closed terrarium. Once established, the enclosed environment helps retain moisture, so these miniature gardens need very little day-to-day attention.
Each terrarium is planted by hand at Leaf Culture, so no two will be exactly the same.
Mini – 10cm tall × 5cm wide
Our smallest terrarium. Ideal for desks, small shelves or anywhere you want to add a little greenery without taking up much room.

Closed terrariums recycle much of their own moisture, creating a humid environment that suits Fittonia particularly well.
They require far less attention than many traditional houseplants and can be a great way to enjoy plants where space is limited.
Each terrarium is allowed to settle for approximately 14 days before being sent. This gives the plants time to adjust to their new environment before travelling to you.
As these are living, individually planted products, the exact shape, colouring and positioning of the plants will naturally vary from the photographs.
Your terrarium will be securely protected for its journey and moist filter wool may be placed around the plants to keep everything stable.
Carefully remove this when your terrarium arrives. The plants can sometimes look slightly compressed immediately after transport, but should naturally lift again after settling.
We use rootless Fittonia cuttings which establish naturally within the terrarium over time.
Occasionally a cutting may become loose during transport. If this happens, simply push the stem gently back into the growing medium.
If you experience a problem with one of the plants within three weeks of delivery, contact us and we'll provide a replacement plant free of charge. Replacement species may vary.

Terrariums are fascinating in every way. You're able to completely control not only the environment but also precisely what you decide to grow. Learning is nice and steady which means you'll enjoy the ride.
2. Minimal care needed
Typically plants in terrariums grow quite slowly especially if you are using moss. This means that maintenance is limited - the occasional trim, the occasional mist is all that's generally needed. The process is always enjoyable whilst the end results are impressive.
3. Let there be light
There's various lighting options with terrariums - some of the models we sell have built in lighting so they're ready to go, straight out of the box. On the other end of the scale are the smaller one's and these will need lighting for your plants to survive.
How much light do I need?
This depends on the plants that you are growing. Some need very little and some require a bit more. The plant labels will show you how bright the light needs to be.
Can I place it on a window ledge?
For smaller terrariums and if you're not investing in artificial illumination, I'd recommend you position them near a window but not on the ledge. Lighting is too intense for most plants there (unless you're choosing a succulent or cacti). Bright, indirect light is ideal and that means no direct sunlight to avoid scorching and fluctuating humidity levels.
