Description

A ceramic fish cave planted with Hydrocotyle tripartita β€” the popular three-lobed pennywort β€” creating a combined shelter and planted feature in a single piece. The cave provides a secure hiding spot for fish and shrimp while the Hydrocotyle growing over it adds natural green texture, softening the ceramic form and producing a naturalistic appearance that reads as a planted rock formation rather than a tank decoration.

Hydrocotyle tripartita is an easy plant, growing in low to medium light without CO2 injection. It spreads by runners and over time will extend beyond the cave surface into the surrounding substrate, gradually increasing the planted coverage. Regular light trimming is all that is needed to maintain the shape around the cave structure.

The plant is pre-established on the cave so no further planting or attachment is needed β€” simply rinse and place in the aquarium. The ceramic is heavy and sinks immediately. The cave suits fish that appreciate enclosed shelter such as small catfish, dwarf cichlids, loaches, and shrimp. Works in aquariums of 30 litres and above.

Plant Sizes

The image of the plant you'll be receiving is just an example of what you can expect. Each plant is unique and may vary in size and shape, so it won't be an exact match to the photo. If we provide a size guide, keep in mind that it's just an estimate and that plants can vary in size depending on the time of year.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

Does the Hydrocotyle need CO2?

Not required β€” Hydrocotyle tripartita grows in low to medium light without CO2 injection. CO2 encourages denser, more compact growth if you have it.

Will the plant spread beyond the cave?

Yes β€” Hydrocotyle produces runners that spread onto the surrounding substrate over time. Trim to control the spread or let it run freely.

What fish use the cave?

Small catfish, dwarf cichlids, loaches, shrimp, and shy community fish all readily adopt ceramic caves as shelter and territory.

Do I need to do anything when it arrives?

No β€” just rinse and place in the aquarium. The plant is already growing on the cave.

Is it safe for shrimp?

Yes β€” both Hydrocotyle and the ceramic are safe for shrimp. The cave provides shelter and the plant surface offers grazing.
