Is Hygrophila corymbosa suitable for beginners?
Yes. It is one of the easiest aquarium plants to keep and is almost always recommended to hobbyists starting a planted tank.
Does it need CO2?
No. It grows vigorously under low light without CO2, making it ideal for low-tech, budget-friendly planted aquariums.
How fast does it grow?
Very fast under good light. In a new aquarium it can put on several centimetres of growth per week, which makes trimming a regular task once it is established.
How do I propagate it?
Simply trim stems to the desired height, then replant the cut section in the substrate nearby. It roots within a few days and continues growing.
Will it help with algae?
Yes. Its rapid nutrient uptake helps to outcompete algae for the phosphates and nitrates it needs, particularly during the cycling phase of a new aquarium.
