Description

Hygrophila lancea is a fine-leaved stem plant with narrow, lance-shaped leaves that give it a lighter, more delicate appearance than the broad-leaved Hygrophila species. Its upright stems and slender leaf form add a refined textural quality to the midground of planted aquariums, providing a useful contrast to broader-leafed plants placed nearby.

It is easy to maintain, growing under medium light without CO2. Like all Hygrophila it benefits from regular trimming, which encourages dense, branching regrowth. Cuttings replanted at the base root readily in the substrate and help maintain a full, bushy appearance over time.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Hygrophila lancea suits aquariums from 50 litres upward. Its narrow leaf form and structured growth make it a useful midground stem plant for hobbyists who want fine-textured height without the visual bulk of larger-leafed Hygrophila varieties.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

How does Hygrophila lancea differ from corymbosa?

Lancea has significantly narrower, more lance-shaped leaves compared to the broad oval leaves of corymbosa. The result is a lighter, finer textural appearance suited to different layout styles.

Does it need CO2?

No. It grows well under medium light without CO2 injection.

Is it easy to care for?

Yes. It shares the easy, forgiving nature of all Hygrophila stem plants and is suitable for hobbyists of all experience levels.

How do I propagate it?

Trim stems and replant cuttings in the substrate. They root within a few days and continue growing. The trimmed stem branches from the cut point.

What aquarium size suits it?

It works well in aquariums from 50 litres upward in the midground, where its slender form provides vertical interest without dominating the composition.
