Description
Hygrophila rosae australis is an Australian stem plant with warm pink-tinged new growth that gradually matures to green, giving plants a naturally warm and subtly coloured appearance. Its upright stems and oval leaves carry the characteristic easy-care nature of Hygrophila while offering something visually different to the more commonly available Asian species in the genus.
It is straightforward to keep, growing under medium light without CO2. The pink colouration on new growth is most pronounced under good light — in low light the leaves emerge with more uniformly green tones. Regular trimming keeps the stems compact and bushy, with cuttings rooting easily in the substrate.
Supplied as an established potted plant, Hygrophila rosae australis suits aquariums from 60 litres upward. Its subtle pink-green colouration and easy care make it a practical choice for hobbyists who want a hint of warmth and colour in the background without the more demanding requirements of intensely coloured aquarium plants.

Having bought aquarium plants from Aqua essentials I am really pleased with the quality, packing and prompt delivery with tracking updates.
Been using this company for a few years now, always good quality plants at a good price.
I was not pleased with this plant at first it arrived well packaged as plants always do from Aqua essentials . I have used Aqua essentials, many times and plants alway excellent apart from this time when the plants arrived I could see they had not travelled well Their leaves were very shrivelled and some had gone brown and had black markings on them . I did not get in touch with Aqua essentials to complain as I am sure they would have sorted it out . . I Did put the plants in the tank but didn't hold out much hope for them but they are thriving and very healthy .
Hello Irene - sorry to read you weren't happy. Shoot me an email so I can sort this out for you.

Arrived quickly and well packaged. A lovely strong looking plant with good root structure. It has been planted in my aquarium for 2 weeks and is flourishing.
Delivered quickly and in great shape, just started trimming, looks fabulous.
Excellent condition and growing really well In my nano tank
Doing really well and getting some nice pink tones in a few of the leaves. Lost some leaves lower down, but starting to send shoots out from there.
Put this in my planted tank. Dosing EL daily and pressurised carbon and these things have just taken off. They just keep growing and look so healthy. well recommended.
Healthy plant received & it seems to be doing well. These are essentially a few separate plants so you're getting more than one which is great value. I purchased this Hygrophila along with some other plants & they all arrived in fantastic condition. Excellent service, great prices & superb products. Thank you.

Product FAQs
Helpful details before you buy.
How vivid is the pink colouration?
The pink is subtle — it appears on new growth and is warm and attractive rather than intensely vivid. Good light produces the most pronounced colouration.
Does it need CO2?
No. It grows well under medium light without CO2, making it a practical addition to low-tech planted aquariums.
Is it easy to care for?
Yes. Like all Hygrophila stem plants it is forgiving and adaptable, suitable for hobbyists at all experience levels.
How do I encourage the best pink colour?
Good medium light is the main driver of leaf colouration. In low light the leaves tend to emerge greener. No specific fertiliser for colour is needed beyond standard plant nutrients.
How do I propagate it?
Trim stems and replant the cuttings in the substrate. They root quickly and continue to grow, allowing you to fill out the background planting over time.
