    Description

Hygrophila salicifolia Narrow Leaf is a willowy stem plant with long, slender leaves that bring a distinctly different texture to the background compared to the round or oval-leafed Hygrophila varieties. Its tall, graceful stems provide vertical interest and gentle movement in current, adding a naturalistic, riverine quality to planted aquariums.

It is easy to keep, growing under low light without CO2 and tolerating a wide range of water parameters. Like all Hygrophila it grows readily once established, and regular trimming keeps growth in bounds while encouraging dense, branching regrowth. Cuttings root readily in the substrate and can be replanted to build out a background group over time.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Hygrophila salicifolia Narrow Leaf suits aquariums from 60 litres upward. Used toward the back of the layout, its narrow leaves and tall habit create a distinctive vertical backdrop that contrasts naturally with wider-leafed plants placed in the midground.

    Product FAQs

    Helpful details before you buy.

How does salicifolia Narrow Leaf differ from broader Hygrophila varieties?

Its leaves are noticeably long and narrow, giving it a willow or grass-like profile quite different from the oval or lance-shaped leaves of corymbosa and similar species.

    Does it need CO2?

No. It grows well under low to medium light without CO2, making it an easy background plant for low-tech aquariums.

    How tall does it grow?

It can grow quite tall if left untrimmed. Regular trimming at the desired height keeps it in bounds and encourages bushy side branching.

    How do I propagate it?

Trim stems to the desired height and replant the cuttings nearby. They root quickly in the substrate and continue growing without issue.

Is it suitable for community aquariums?

Yes. Its tall, upright habit and undemanding care make it a practical background plant for community tanks of all types.
