    Description

Ludwigia palustris green is one of the most adaptable and easy-care Ludwigia species, producing pairs of oval to elliptical leaves in bright green, often with subtly reddish undersides visible on new growth. Its undemanding nature and attractive clean appearance make it a practical and popular stem plant for low-tech planted aquariums.

It grows well under medium light without CO2 injection, tolerating a wide range of water conditions. Like all Ludwigia it is a fast grower and responds well to regular trimming, which encourages bushy, dense regrowth. Cuttings root readily in the substrate and continue growing, making propagation and filling out a background planting group straightforward.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Ludwigia palustris green suits aquariums from 50 litres upward. Its clean green appearance, fast growth, and low care requirements make it a reliable choice for both beginner planted aquariums and established set-ups where an easy, visually tidy background stem plant is needed.

    Common Questions

Is Ludwigia palustris green easy to keep?

Yes. It is one of the most undemanding Ludwigia species, growing well under medium light without CO2 injection and tolerating a wide range of water conditions.

    Does it need CO2?

No. It grows reliably without CO2, making it a practical low-tech stem plant for community aquariums.

Does it develop any red colouration?

Under good light the leaf undersides can develop subtle reddish tones, but it remains predominantly green. The red form of palustris is better suited if vivid colour is a priority.

    How do I propagate it?

Trim stems and replant the cuttings. They root within a few days and continue growing. Trimmed stems branch and produce denser growth over time.

    What aquarium size suits it?

It works well in aquariums from 50 litres upward as a background plant. Its fast growth means it fills in quickly once established.
