Description
Microsorum pteropus Windelov, commonly called Lace Java fern, is a refined variety of Java fern with finely divided, ruffled leaf tips that give each frond a delicate, intricate texture unlike the standard broad-leaf form. Pre-attached to a large piece of natural wood, it creates a substantial planted feature with an elegance and detail that makes it particularly effective in natural aquascaping styles.
Care is identical to standard Java fern — low to medium light, no CO2, highly tolerant of a wide range of water conditions and temperatures. Growth is slow to moderate but the plant is long-lived and low-maintenance. The Windelov form is particularly attractive in larger pieces where the detail of the ruffled leaf tips can be fully appreciated.
The rhizome is pre-attached to the wood so no further attachment is needed — simply rinse and place in the aquarium. Never bury the rhizome. The large size is suited to aquariums of 80 litres and above where it can serve as a detailed planted centrepiece. Adventitious plantlets develop on the leaf surfaces and can be removed once rooted.
