Description
Microsorum pteropus Windelov, commonly called Lace Java fern, is a refined variety of Java fern with finely divided, ruffled leaf tips that give each frond a delicate, intricate texture quite unlike the standard broad-leaf form. This small version is pre-attached to a natural piece of wood, making it ideally sized for smaller aquariums, nano set-ups, and shrimp tanks where its textural detail is appreciated up close.
Care is identical to standard Java fern — low to medium light, no CO2, highly tolerant of a wide range of water conditions. Growth is slow to moderate but the plant is long-lived. Windelov's ruffled leaf tips are particularly beautiful in small tanks where individual fronds can be examined closely.
The rhizome is pre-attached to the wood so no further attachment is needed — simply rinse and place in the aquarium. Never bury the rhizome. The small size is suited to aquariums of 20 litres and above and is especially popular in shrimp tanks and nano aquascapes where its compact scale and fine texture work well.
