Microsorum pteropus Green is a vibrant, lush-coloured form of Java fern with bright emerald-green leaves that are slightly more vivid in tone than the standard form. Like all Java fern varieties, it grows attached to wood or rock rather than being planted in the substrate, making it a versatile and distinctive plant for creating a natural, hardscape-integrated look in planted aquariums.
It grows well in low to medium light without CO2 injection, tolerating a wide range of water conditions. The rhizome must remain exposed and not buried — attach it to hardscape using thread, fishing line, or aquarium-safe glue and the roots will anchor naturally over time. It is slow to moderate in growth rate and requires minimal maintenance once established.
Supplied as an established potted plant, Microsorum pteropus Green suits aquariums from 40 litres upward. Its bright green colouration, ease of care, and adaptability to hardscape attachment make it an attractive and practical option for wood and rock aquascape layouts at all levels of the hobby.
