    Bucephalandra pygmaea Bukit Kalem is a compact and charming miniature Bucephalandra from Borneo's Bukit Kalem region, producing very small, rounded to oval leaves in dark green with a subtle metallic sheen. Its tiny scale makes it exceptionally well suited to nano aquariums, foreground hardscape positions, and shrimp tanks where a small-format epiphytic plant is needed with minimal footprint.

    Like all Bucephalandra it grows attached to wood or rock with the rhizome exposed, tolerating low to medium light without CO2 injection. Growth is slow but the plant is very long-lived, developing a spreading rhizome across hardscape surfaces over months and years. Its miniature scale is a key attribute in scapes where precise scaling of plant sizes is important.

    1. Grown in a laboratory

    Tissue Cultured Plants are unique in so much as they are grown in a laboratory and not a greenhouse. As a result of this, a cast iron guarantee is offered which is 100% so snails and no pesticides.

    2. How to handle them

    They're a bit different from potted plants because they're grown in an agae solution that contains nutrients and hormones to encrougage plants to grow. Some agar is liquid, others are more solid depending on what the growers prefers. Regardless once they arrive with you, acclimatise to room temperature and then rinse under luke warm tap water. Then plant up.

    3. Pot sizes

    Nearly all TC pots are 5cm in diameter and the pots will range in fullness depending on many factors such as the natural growth speed of the plant and the time the grower has held them for. Sometimes the pots are exceptionally full and sometimes not so full - something we cannot control. But either way, they're still really good value when you look at the overall plant mass.

    Very nice plants

    Very nice plants. Already pink in colour, they’ve started rooting into the substrate a few days after planting. Low tech tank so we’ll see how they get on but there’s no sign of melting so far and I see some new growth coming in. Very generous number of plants, just one container of these could easily cover a large tank as I managed to get about 8 plants out of mine. My tank didn’t have room for them all so will be able to give some away. Incredibly pleased, money well spent.
