Description
The Half Coconut with Java Moss is a natural coconut shell half covered with live Java moss, creating a simple shelter and planted feature in one. The open-topped half-shell form provides cover for fish and shrimp while the live moss covering gives it a naturalistic appearance that suits planted aquariums, shrimp tanks, and community set-ups equally well.
Java moss is one of the easiest aquarium plants available. It grows in low to medium light without CO2 injection and tolerates a wide range of water conditions. The moss will slowly spread and increase its coverage over the coconut surface over time with no special care required. Shrimp are particularly attracted to it for both grazing and shelter.
The moss is pre-established on the coconut so no further attachment is needed — simply rinse and place. The natural coconut settles to the bottom of the tank without weighting. It may release some tannins initially, which is natural and harmless. Suitable for aquariums of 20 litres and above and particularly popular in shrimp and breeding tanks.

Bought the half coconut for my Grandson's biube aquarium which i wanted to disguise the bubble tube filter cover which after a slight adaptation of drilling a 19mm hole in the coconut it fitted perfectly to hide the cover plate

(Considering post won’t arrive on a Sunday) the plant looks great, came in beautiful condition and seemed very well packed. Excellent service, I ordered on Tuesday evening using standard delivery and it arrived on Thursday morning. The coconut was a decent size (about 6" across) and was covered in a lush vivid green carpet of moss. A couple of minutes after placing in my 10gal tank 1 of my 6 cherry shrimps was foraging on it and hasn't moved from it since.

Is this suitable for a cold water axolotl tank? Has it been treated to avoid snails and other tagalongs? Should I quarantine it before putting it in the tank?
Hi, yes it is suitable and free of tagalongs. No need to quarantine.
Will fish and shrimp use it as shelter?
Yes — small fish and shrimp readily use the half coconut as cover. The open top allows fish to enter from above while shrimp shelter within.
Does the moss need CO2 or special lighting?
No — Java moss grows under standard aquarium lighting without CO2.
Will the coconut release tannins?
Natural coconut may release some tannins initially, tinting the water amber. This is harmless and settles over time with regular water changes.
Will the moss spread further?
Yes, slowly. The moss will increase its coverage over the coconut surface over time. Trim with scissors to keep it neat.
