Description
A ceramic fish house structure pre-grown with Java moss, combining a practical cave and shelter with a live planted surface in a single ready-made piece. The moss softens the ceramic and creates a naturalistic appearance — the fish house reads more like a planted stone formation than a tank ornament while still providing the clearly defined shelter and entrance that fish actively seek out and adopt as territory.
Java moss is one of the easiest plants available. It grows in low light without CO2 injection and tolerates a wide range of water conditions. Over time the moss will spread further across the ceramic surface. Shrimp graze on the biofilm the moss develops and use the structure as shelter alongside any fish that inhabit it.
The moss is pre-established on the fish house so no further attachment is needed — simply rinse and place in the aquarium. The ceramic is heavy and sinks immediately. Suitable for small fish that appreciate shelter — loaches, dwarf cichlids, corydoras, gobies, and shrimp — in aquariums of 30 litres and above.
Plant Sizes
The image of the plant you'll be receiving is just an example of what you can expect. Each plant is unique and may vary in size and shape, so it won't be an exact match to the photo. If we provide a size guide, keep in mind that it's just an estimate and that plants can vary in size depending on the time of year.

Provides excellent housing, my fish immediately settled in and began exploring. Lets the more skittish fish have a place to hide from the others. My pleco also loves it. This is my second time ordering from Aqua Essentials and I am very happy with the service.

Shrimp love, fish love, I love, really well packaged, plenty of moss on it and the moss has grown loads since I put in tank 2 weeks ago.
Exactly as described and an asset to my aquarium. The fish love it! Many thanks - I will be buying from you again in the future.
Nice unit as an addition to my tank. Offers my fish another dimension in their environment. Good product.
Quick delivery. Excellent quality and looks great in the tank
I have ordered plants and such from many places, but I must say this Java Moss Fish House was in fantastic condition. It was packaged carefully and now that I have put it in my tank it looks beautiful. I am very happy, will continue to order. Thank you.
Sharkie loves it ... thought it was a tad expensive but hey its lovely deffo worth it :)
I've tucked this away towards the back of the tank. Looks fab and fish love zipping through it to grab some much needed quiet time.
When I ordered this item I thought it was a touch on the expensive side but seeing it in one of my aquariums it looks 'the business' and have since seen inferior looking moss stones/houses at far greater prices and it seems to be thriving in its new enviroment.
Product FAQs
Helpful details before you buy.
What fish will use the fish house?
Small catfish, loaches, dwarf cichlids, gobies, corydoras, and shy community fish readily adopt ceramic fish houses as territory. Shrimp also use them for shelter.
Does the moss need CO2?
No — Java moss grows under standard aquarium lighting without CO2 injection.
Will the moss spread over time?
Yes, slowly. The moss will increase its coverage across the ceramic surface and may extend onto the surrounding substrate over time.
Is it safe for shrimp?
Yes, fully. Java moss is shrimp-safe and the ceramic is inert. The fish house is particularly popular in shrimp tanks as it provides both shelter and grazing.
Do I need to do anything when it arrives?
No — just rinse and place it in the aquarium. The moss is pre-established and the structure is ready to use immediately.
