Description

Cryptocoryne moehlmannii is an elegant Sri Lankan Cryptocoryne with narrow, undulating leaves that have a distinctive wavy, ribbon-like quality setting it apart from the broader-leaved Crypt species. It typically reaches 15–25cm in height and suits midground planting. A less commonly stocked Crypt with a more graceful, refined appearance than the more mainstream varieties.

Low light, no CO2, planted in substrate. Root tabs or a nutrient-rich substrate support good growth. Like all Crypts, it can experience temporary leaf melt when first moved β€” leave the rhizome in place and new growth will emerge once it has settled.

Plant roots in the substrate without burying the crown. It propagates via runners and will gradually form a small colony over time.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

What is 'crypt melt'?

When moved, Cryptocoryne sometimes dissolve their leaves. This is normal. Leave the rhizome in the substrate and new leaves will regrow.

What makes moehlmannii distinctive?

The narrow, ribbon-like undulating leaves have a more graceful, elegant appearance than the broader-leaved Crypt species β€” different from standard wendtii or affinis.

Does it need CO2?

No β€” grows without CO2. A nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs make more difference.

What size does it reach?

Typically 15–25cm β€” midground positioning in most aquariums.

Is it commonly available?

Less so than mainstream Crypts like wendtii. Worth adding if you're building a diverse Cryptocoryne collection.
