Description

Lagenandra meeboldi Red is a striking aquarium plant closely related to Cryptocoryne, producing dark reddish-brown to deep purple leaves with a distinctive wavy margin and rich, moody colouration. It has a dramatic appearance quite unlike most common aquarium plants, making it an excellent choice for aquascapers looking for something unusual. This version comes pre-attached to driftwood, ready to place in the tank.

Like Cryptocoryne, Lagenandra is tolerant and adaptable. It grows in low to medium light without CO2 injection and handles a wide range of water conditions. Growth is slow but the plant is long-lived once settled. As a rhizome plant it attaches naturally to wood and rock rather than requiring substrate planting, making it a natural fit for driftwood mounting.

The plant is pre-attached to the driftwood so no further planting or attachment is needed — simply rinse and place in the aquarium. Never bury the rhizome. Suited to aquariums of 40 litres and above where its dark, dramatic foliage provides contrast against brighter green plants. Can be repositioned at any time.

The image of the plant you'll be receiving is just an example of what you can expect. Each plant is unique and may vary in size and shape, so it won't be an exact match to the photo. If we provide a size guide, keep in mind that it's just an estimate and that plants can vary in size depending on the time of year.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

What is Lagenandra meeboldi Red?

A slow-growing rhizome plant closely related to Cryptocoryne, producing dark reddish-brown to purple leaves with a wavy margin. It is more unusual in the hobby than its Crypt relatives and valued for its dramatic colouration.

Does it need CO2?

No — like Cryptocoryne, it grows in low to medium light without CO2 injection.

Do I need to do anything when it arrives?

No — the plant is already attached to the driftwood. Just rinse and place.

Will it experience melt like Crypts?

It can have an adjustment period similar to Cryptocoryne when first moved. Old leaves may die back but the rhizome remains healthy and new growth follows.

Is it safe for shrimp and community fish?

Yes, fully. The driftwood and plant are both aquarium-safe and shrimp will graze on the biofilm that forms on the leaf surfaces.
