Description

Limnophila sessiliflora is one of the most adaptable stem plants in the aquarium hobby, producing fine, feathery whorls of divided leaves along tall, branching stems. Unlike the more demanding Limnophila species, it grows vigorously without CO2 injection and tolerates a wide range of light levels, making it one of the most practical background plants available for low-tech aquariums.

Its fast growth and nutrient uptake make it a valuable plant in new aquariums, where it helps stabilise water quality during the cycling phase. Regular trimming encourages bushy, dense regrowth, and cuttings root readily in the substrate to extend a background planting group. It adapts well to both tropical and slightly cooler water temperatures.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Limnophila sessiliflora suits aquariums from 60 litres upward. Used as a background plant, it produces the soft, feathery visual texture characteristic of Limnophila at a fraction of the care difficulty of related species, making it an excellent choice for beginners and low-tech hobbyists alike.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

Is Limnophila sessiliflora easy to keep?

Yes. It is one of the easiest Limnophila species and grows vigorously without CO2 under low to medium light, making it ideal for beginners.

Does it need CO2?

No. Unlike most Limnophila species, sessiliflora grows well without CO2 injection and is a practical low-tech background plant.

How fast does it grow?

Fast. Under good light it grows several centimetres per week. Regular trimming is needed once the plant is established.

How does it compare to Limnophila aquatica?

Sessiliflora is much easier to keep than aquatica and grows without CO2. Aquatica produces larger, more impressive whorls but requires bright light and CO2 for good results.

What aquarium size suits it?

It works well in aquariums from 60 litres upward as a background plant. Its vigorous growth means it fills in quickly in any set-up.
