Description

Spiderwood with Plants is a natural piece of spiderwood — the pale, intricately branching wood with a distinctive angular, tangled structure — pre-grown with a curated selection of aquarium plants. The combination of spiderwood's pale appearance and living plant coverage creates an immediately naturalistic feature that replicates the look of submerged root systems found in tropical rivers and streams.

Spiderwood is a lightweight wood well suited to epiphytic plants that attach to wood and rock naturally. The plants selected for it — typically including a combination of Java fern, Anubias, moss, and similar low-tech species — all grow in low to medium light without CO2 injection and require no substrate planting. Once established they continue growing and gradually increase their coverage of the wood over time.

All plants are pre-established on the spiderwood so no further attachment is needed — simply rinse and place in the aquarium. Spiderwood is lightweight and may need a brief soak or temporary weighting to submerge fully. The exact plant species supplied may vary with seasonal stock availability. Suited to aquariums of 40 litres and above.

Plant Sizes

The image of the plant you'll be receiving is just an example of what you can expect. Each plant is unique and may vary in size and shape, so it won't be an exact match to the photo. If we provide a size guide, keep in mind that it's just an estimate and that plants can vary in size depending on the time of year.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

What plants are included?

The selection varies with seasonal availability but typically includes a combination of Java fern, Anubias, and aquarium moss — all low-tech epiphytes that suit spiderwood naturally. Contact us if you'd like to know current stock.

Will the spiderwood sink?

Spiderwood is lightweight and may need a brief soak of a few days or temporary weighting to submerge fully. This is normal and it will stay down once saturated.

Do the plants need CO2 or bright lighting?

No — all plants supplied are low-tech species that grow in standard aquarium lighting without CO2 injection.

Do I need to do anything when it arrives?

No — all plants are pre-established on the wood. Just rinse, soak if needed to submerge, and place.

Is it safe for shrimp and community fish?

Yes, fully. Spiderwood and the plants supplied are all aquarium-safe. Shrimp in particular are attracted to the structure for grazing and shelter.
