    Description

Echinodorus horemannii Red is a richly coloured variant of the classic horemanii sword plant, producing broad, elongated leaves in shades of deep red to bronze-green. New growth typically emerges with the most intense colouration before gradually settling to a darker, mottled tone.

Like its green counterpart, this is a low-maintenance species that thrives without CO2 injection under medium lighting. A nutrient-rich substrate supports the strong root system and encourages the vivid leaf pigmentation that makes this variety stand out in a planted aquarium.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Echinodorus horemannii Red suits aquariums of 200 litres or more where it can be used as a bold background or centrepiece specimen. Its warm colouration pairs well with contrasting green plants and provides natural cover for larger fish.

    Product FAQs

    Helpful details before you buy.

How vivid is the red colouration?

New leaves emerge with the deepest red, gradually shifting to a bronze-green as they mature. Good lighting and a nutritious substrate help maintain colour intensity.

    Does it need CO2?

No. Root tabs or a rich substrate will support healthy, colourful growth without CO2 injection.

    How large does it grow?

It can reach 40–50 cm in height. Allow plenty of horizontal space as the rosette spreads considerably.

Is it easy to care for?

Yes. It is one of the easier large sword plants to keep and suits beginners who want a bold, colourful specimen.

    Will it overshadow smaller plants?

Its broad leaves can shade the area beneath them. Plan smaller, shade-tolerant species nearby while keeping light-demanding plants away from its footprint.
