Description

Echinodorus ozelot Red is a richly coloured form of the popular ozelot hybrid, combining the characteristic dark spotting of the ozelot with striking red to bronze leaf colouration. New leaves emerge with the most intense red, providing vivid colour that shifts through shades of bronze and brown-green as the plant matures.

Care is uncomplicated. Medium light and a nutrient-rich substrate are all it needs to grow well, with no CO2 injection required. The red colouration is most pronounced under good light and with adequate iron and micronutrients available through the substrate or a liquid fertiliser.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Echinodorus ozelot Red reaches 20–35 cm in height and is best placed in the midground of aquariums from 100 litres upward. The warm tones of the leaves create an eye-catching contrast against green-leafed neighbouring plants.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

How do I keep the red colour as vivid as possible?

Good medium to high light and a substrate or fertiliser rich in iron and micronutrients will give the best colour. New leaves are always the reddest.

Does it need CO2 injection?

No. CO2 is not required, though it can accelerate growth and enhance leaf colouration if used.

How large does it grow?

It typically reaches 20–35 cm in height, similar to the green ozelot form, making it suitable for the midground of most aquariums.

Will it always stay red?

New growth is the most intensely red. Mature leaves gradually shift toward bronze and brown-green, but the plant continuously produces new leaves, so there is always fresh colour.

Is it hard to care for?

No. Despite its dramatic appearance, ozelot Red is one of the easier coloured sword plants to maintain and suits beginners and experienced hobbyists alike.
