Does Myriophyllum mattogrossense need CO2?
Yes. CO2 injection is important for compact, well-structured growth and preventing deterioration of the fine feathery leaves. Without CO2 growth becomes sparse and the plant performs poorly.
What light level does it need?
Bright light is required. Under medium or low light the fine leaves do not develop well and the plant becomes sparse and less attractive.
Is it suitable for beginners?
No. It is a moderately demanding plant best suited to hobbyists with bright lighting, CO2, and good fertilisation in place. It is not tolerant of low-tech conditions.
What water conditions does it prefer?
Soft to moderately hard water with neutral to slightly acidic pH. Very hard or alkaline water can inhibit nutrient uptake and deteriorate the fine leaf structure.
How do I propagate it?
Trim stem cuttings and replant them in the substrate. They root readily and continue the same feathery growth, allowing you to build a dense background group.
