    Description

Lead Weights are ideal for anchoring plants to the bottom of the aquarium. Certain fish that like to forage and uproot plants can cause havoc in the planted aquarium by digging them up and leaving you to re-plant them again. With these lead weights, you can wrap them around the base of the plant (gently) and they will keep the plant in place.

Soft and malleable, so can be cut or folded into the desired shape or size. Perfectly safe in aquariums - they've been used for over 50 years in the hobby. For those who have a problem with bottom-dwelling fish such as loaches, this is just what you need.

    Common Questions

What are aquarium plant lead weights used for?

Aquarium plant lead weights are used to hold live aquarium plants down in the substrate, helping stop them floating loose or being uprooted by fish.

How do I use aquarium plant lead weights?

Gently wrap the weight around the lower stems or base of the plant, then place the plant into the substrate. Avoid wrapping it too tightly, as this can damage delicate stems.

Are plant lead weights useful for fish that dig?

Yes. They are especially useful in aquariums with fish that forage, dig or disturb freshly planted stems, as the added weight helps keep plants in position.

Can I use these weights on all aquarium plants?

They are best used with stem plants and bunch plants that need help staying down. For plants such as Anubias, Java Fern or moss, attaching them to wood, rock or a ceramic plant weight is usually a better option.

Will aquarium plant lead weights harm my plants?

They should not harm plants when used gently. Wrap them loosely enough to hold the plant in place without crushing the stems or restricting growth.

Do I need to remove the lead weights later?

You can remove them once the plant has rooted securely, but many aquarists leave them in place if the plant is healthy and the weight is not damaging the stems.

Are these useful for new aquarium plants?

Yes. They are helpful when adding new plants because freshly planted stems often float up before roots have had time to anchor into the substrate.
