Description

Bacopa monnieri 'Compacta' is a cultivar of the classic Bacopa monnieri that stays considerably smaller and denser than the original. Where standard monnieri grows upright to 50cm, Compacta has shorter internodes, a naturally compact structure, and neat, fresh-green leaves that make it particularly well suited to smaller aquariums and foreground or mid-ground placement in larger ones.

It's as easy to grow as standard Bacopa monnieri — no CO2 required, tolerant of a range of light levels — but the compact growth habit means less frequent trimming is needed to keep it tidy. Pairing it with darker-leaved plants such as Anubias or Microsorum emphasises the bright, fresh green of its foliage effectively.

Plant stems in small groups directly into the substrate. Trim tops to encourage lateral branching and a well-structured, bushy form.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

How is Compacta different from standard Bacopa monnieri?

Compacta has shorter internodes and stays noticeably smaller with a denser, more structured growth habit. Standard monnieri reaches 50cm; Compacta stays considerably shorter and more compact.

Is it good for nano aquariums?

Yes — the compact size makes it one of the better Bacopa choices for smaller or nano tanks where standard monnieri would quickly become too large.

Does it need CO2?

No — like all Bacopa monnieri varieties it grows without CO2 supplementation.

Where should I position it?

Foreground to mid-ground in larger tanks; throughout in smaller aquariums given the compact growth habit.

How do I propagate it?

Trim stems and replant the cuttings directly into the substrate. They establish readily and quickly.
