Description
Cryptocoryne beckettii is a small, adaptable Sri Lankan Cryptocoryne that has earned its place as one of the hobby's most reliable foreground Crypts. The slightly wavy leaves are green on the upper surface and purplish-brown beneath, and the plant typically stays compact at 10–20cm — ideal for foreground to midground use in most aquariums.
It tolerates a wider range of conditions than most Crypts: low light, no CO2, and quite forgiving of variations in temperature and water hardness. Root tabs or nutrient-rich substrate support the best growth. Like all Crypts, temporary leaf melt can follow being moved — leave the rhizome in place and new growth will appear.
Plant roots in the substrate without burying the crown. It spreads steadily via runners once established.

What is 'crypt melt'?
When moved to a new environment, Cryptocoryne sometimes dissolve their leaves. This is normal — leave the rhizome in place and new leaves will regrow within a few weeks.
Why is beckettii considered one of the easiest Crypts?
It tolerates a wider range of water conditions than most Cryptocoryne — including variations in temperature, pH, and hardness — making it more forgiving for beginners.
Does it need CO2?
No — grows well without CO2. Nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs support good growth.
