Description

Cryptocoryne x willisii is a hybrid Cryptocoryne producing slender, pointed leaves with a slightly elongated, narrow form that differs from the more rounded Sri Lankan Crypts like beckettii. The leaves are typically a mid-green with a subtle surface texture, and the plant stays compact at 10–20cm — well suited to foreground to lower midground positioning.

Low light, no CO2, planted in substrate. Root tabs help it establish faster. Like all Crypts, temporary leaf melt can follow being moved — leave the rhizome in the substrate and new growth will appear within a few weeks. Once settled it spreads reliably via runners.

Plant roots in the substrate without burying the crown. Foreground to midground in most aquariums.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

What is 'crypt melt'?

When moved, Cryptocoryne sometimes dissolve their leaves. This is normal. Leave the rhizome in the substrate and new leaves will regrow.

Is willisii easy to grow?

Yes — it's a compact and adaptable Crypt, tolerant of low light and no CO2.

Does it need CO2?

No — grows without CO2. Root tabs or a nutrient-rich substrate support good establishment.

What size does it reach?

Typically 10–20cm — foreground to lower midground in most aquariums.

How do I plant it?

Plant roots in the substrate without burying the crown. Spreads via runners over time.
