What makes Fluitans different from other cordifolius?
The leaves are produced on very long petioles and float on the water surface rather than standing upright. The floating canopy is the defining feature.
Does it need CO2?
No — grows without CO2. Root tabs near the roots support the best growth.
Will the floating leaves shade the tank significantly?
Yes — this is normal and expected. The floating canopy shades the water below, which can reduce algae and create a pleasant dappled light effect.
How large does it get?
The plant is moderate in size but the floating leaves can spread considerably across the water surface. Best in medium to large aquariums.
How do I propagate it?
Daughter plants on flower stems — detach once they have 3–4 leaves and visible roots.
