Description

Echinodorus Red Devil is a boldly coloured cultivar producing large, intensely red leaves on a robust rosette that can reach 40 cm or more in a mature aquarium. The deep, near-burgundy colouration on new growth makes it one of the most dramatically pigmented sword plants available.

Despite its striking appearance, Red Devil is no more demanding than standard green Echinodorus varieties. It thrives under medium light without CO2 injection, drawing nutrition primarily from the substrate. Root tabs or a nutrient-rich planting medium are recommended to sustain the vigorous growth the plant is capable of.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Echinodorus Red Devil suits aquariums of 150 litres or more. Positioned in the background, it creates a vivid red focal point that anchors the layout, particularly when paired with contrasting green and white-leaved plants.

I have previously brought this plant and it had very deep reds even the greens were stunning but was unsuccessful with the two plants that said the problems was it needed more light and better substrates on my behalf have brought it again (with corrections made) and have to say unreal growth!/colours If you haven't got this plant you need this plant.

How intense is the red on Echinodorus Red Devil?

New growth is a deep, near-burgundy red, among the most intensely coloured of any Echinodorus cultivar. Mature leaves shift to a darker red-green but new leaves maintain vivid colour continuously.

Does it need CO2?

No. It grows well under medium light without CO2 injection. An iron-rich fertiliser and nutritious substrate enhance the colour intensity.

How large does it get?

It can reach 40 cm or more in height in a mature aquarium. Allow plenty of space both vertically and laterally for the rosette to develop.

What tank size is recommended?

Aquariums of 150 litres or more are ideal, where it can be used as a commanding background specimen.

Is it suitable for a community aquarium?

Yes. It is peaceful and compatible with virtually all community fish. Its large, thick leaves are robust and unlikely to be damaged by most species.
