About Mixed Boxes

Mixed Boxes are the best way to add lots of plants into your aquarium without the hassle of having to choose the plants - leave it up to the experts!

Our plant manager will persoanlly pick your plants choosing a range of foreground, midground and background plants. All mixed boxes have a range of colours and sizes so when they arrive with you, it looks beautiful immediately.

What size should I choose?

Select the mixed box that is closest to your aquarium taking into consideration any wood or rocks you already have in there. If that's the case, try the next size down.

Can I request specific plants in a Mixed Box?

You can't request specific plants but if you'd like more foreground than background for eg, shoot us a message and we'll see what we can do for you.

Question please - would this survive my verious curious turtle?

Hi there,
I have a 300 L with a 5 inch turtle, and wonder if she would destroy it?

It's only been two weeks since planting the tank so cannot tell if the substrate has had an effect on growth. However, the moneywort I have planted does seem to be appreciating the substrate! One note: I thought I could get away with having a few mm of water in my tank, but that was a big no-no. Make sure that the tank is bone-dry before adding the substrate else your tank will be filled with little bits of organic matter.

Have only just used this product in a new tank, bit Tropica has a very good reputation and lovely plants so am very hopeful that the new tank will be a success. The substrate was very easy to use, and, once covered with a good deep layer of gravel, did not cloud the water after a couple of days settling in. Onwards & upwards!!

I have only gravel in my aquarium so I am see this substrate in small pots, gravel first then a teaspoon or two put the plant in with a root tab and more gravel, so far so good.

About this box

Choose your tank size and we’ll hand-pick a fresh mix of aquarium plants, chosen for variety in shape, colour and planting position.

Standard or Premium?

Standard

A great-value selection from our greenhouse.

Premium

A wider selection, including less common or higher-value plants where available.

What you’ll receive

Your box is selected from fresh available stock, so the exact plants vary. Boxes may contain potted aquarium plants, tissue culture plants, or a combination of both.

Our plant team chooses a mix of shapes, heights, colours and textures for different planting positions. You can’t request specific plants, but if you’d prefer more foreground than background plants, contact us and we’ll see what we can do.

Planting & aftercare

Before planting, remove potted plants from their pots and rockwool. Give each plant enough space to settle, root and grow. Place foreground plants towards the front, midground plants around the centre, and taller plants towards the back.

Support growth with suitable aquarium plant nutrition. Neutro fertilisers are ideal for regular feeding; Neutro TerraTabs are useful for heavier root-feeding plants once settled into the substrate.
