Description

Hygrophila corymbosa Stricta is an upright, structured form of the classic corymbosa, with a slightly more compact stem arrangement and narrower leaves that give it a more refined appearance while retaining all the easy-care qualities the species is known for. Its strongly upright growth habit makes it particularly well suited to tall background positions in larger aquariums.

Like the standard form, it is highly tolerant and grows under low light without CO2 in virtually any water conditions. It is a fast grower that absorbs nutrients effectively, making it useful for stabilising new aquariums as well as providing a reliable, long-term background plant in established set-ups.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Hygrophila corymbosa Stricta suits aquariums from 60 litres upward. Planted in groups at the back of the layout, it creates a structured, upright background with a slightly more formal appearance than the looser standard form, and it is consistently recommended as one of the easiest plants for hobbyists new to planted aquariums.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

How does Stricta differ from standard Hygrophila corymbosa?

Stricta has a more upright, rigid stem arrangement with slightly narrower leaves, giving it a more structured, formal appearance compared to the looser standard form.

Does it need CO2?

No. Like all Hygrophila corymbosa forms, Stricta grows well under low light without CO2 injection.

Is it suitable for beginners?

Yes. It is one of the easiest aquarium plants available and is a reliable choice for any hobbyist regardless of experience level.

How do I propagate it?

Trim stems to the desired height and replant the cuttings. They root quickly in the substrate and continue growing immediately.

What size aquarium does it suit?

It works well in aquariums from 60 litres upward. Its upright growth and eventual height make it most useful in aquariums with at least 40 cm of water depth.
