    Description

Nymphoides sp. Taiwan, sometimes called the mini banana plant or Taiwan floating heart, is a charming and distinctive aquarium plant producing rounded, heart-shaped leaves on long delicate petioles. Under aquarium conditions it develops a novel and eye-catching appearance as the leaves float naturally at different heights, creating a layered, almost floating visual effect in the midground of planted layouts.

It grows best with medium light and CO2 supplementation for healthy, sustained growth. Without CO2 it can still be grown but tends to develop more slowly and may not produce the most vigorous new leaf growth. A nutritious substrate or root tabs support the root system, and liquid fertilisation maintains leaf health over time.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Nymphoides sp. Taiwan suits aquariums from 40 litres upward. Its unusual leaf form and growth habit make it a distinctive and interesting conversation piece in planted aquariums, providing a midground element that differs considerably from conventional stem or rosette plants.

    Product FAQs

    Helpful details before you buy.

Is Nymphoides sp. Taiwan easy to care for?

It is a manageable plant for hobbyists with medium light and ideally CO2. It is not overly demanding but does best in a reasonably well-maintained planted aquarium.

    Does it need CO2?

CO2 is recommended for the best growth rate and leaf development. Without CO2 it grows more slowly but can still be maintained in good medium light.

Why are its leaves floating or at different heights?

The leaves grow on long petioles that extend toward the light, naturally positioning at different heights in the water column. This gives it a layered, floating appearance that is part of its charm.

Where should I position it in the aquarium?

The midground works well. Its unusual floating leaf habit provides an interesting layered effect that contrasts with both foreground carpets and upright background stems.

    How do I propagate it?

It produces runners that develop new plantlets. Allow the runners to reach the substrate and anchor themselves, or detach them and replant in a new position.
