Description

Ludwigia palustris Super Red is a highly selected cultivar of Ludwigia palustris producing intensely vivid red leaves across both upper and lower surfaces — a significantly more dramatic colouration than the standard red form. Under ideal bright light and CO2 conditions the leaves achieve a clean, saturated red that is among the most striking available in any easy-to-medium care Ludwigia.

It benefits from bright light and CO2 supplementation for the most intense and consistent colouration. Under lower light the red fades toward olive-green and the plant loses much of its visual impact. Iron-rich fertilisation is important for sustaining the red pigmentation on new growth over the long term.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Ludwigia palustris Super Red suits aquariums from 50 litres upward with good lighting and ideally CO2 injection. Used in the midground or background, its vivid red forms a powerful visual contrast against bright green plants placed alongside it.

Product FAQs

Helpful details before you buy.

How vivid is the red on Super Red compared to the standard red form?

Significantly more vivid. Super Red is a highly selected cultivar producing saturated, consistent red across both leaf surfaces under good light, while the standard form is more olive-red.

Does it need CO2?

CO2 is recommended for the most vivid, consistent red colouration. Without CO2 the red fades considerably and the plant becomes more olive-green in colour.

What light level does it need?

Bright light is required for the best colouration. Under medium light the red diminishes. Under low light the plant will not colour well.

How do I maintain the red?

Bright light, CO2, and regular iron-rich fertilisation are key. Without all three the colouration will fade over time.

Is it easy to care for?

It is manageable for hobbyists with medium to bright light and ideally CO2. It is more demanding than the standard palustris forms but easier than Ludwigia glandulosa or inclinata.
