    Description

Ludwigia rubin is a handsome red Ludwigia cultivar producing lance-shaped leaves in ruby-red to burgundy that develop most strongly under medium to bright light and CO2. Its upright stem growth and vivid colouration make it a popular midground to background plant in planted aquariums where a reliable, manageable red stem species is needed.

It performs best with CO2 supplementation and medium to bright light for compact growth and sustained red colouration. Without CO2 it remains growable but tends toward olive-green and looser growth. Iron-rich fertilisation and regular trimming encourage the most vibrant, compact new growth and prevent the plant from becoming leggy.

Supplied as an established potted plant, Ludwigia rubin suits aquariums from 50 litres upward. Its manageable care requirements, attractive form, and vivid red tones make it a good choice for hobbyists who want a bold red stem plant with somewhat less demand than the most advanced Ludwigia species.

This plant arrived very quickly and was in excellent condition. It was also very well packaged. I was impressed by the quality of the plant and also the quality of the service.
The plant took a few days to settle in to my aquarium but now is growing quite quickly and will shortly reach the water surface, whereupon I shall take cuttings for planting.

Unfortunately almost all of it melted away, but one stem survived, has rooted heavily and is now growing

Happy with this plant. Very healthy. Much larger leaves than the ludwigia palustris i have, which makes for a nice contrast.

I have never bought aquarium plants online before, I needed some red ones and I know they are quite difficult to find. The plants I have bought from aqua essentials are amazing. Delivery was quick. Will certainly be buying more. Excellant

Excellent plant, excellent condition and packaging. Same as all the plants Ive bought from Aquaessentials. I used Express delivery and delivered exactly when they said it would. You pay about £1.00 per plant above other suppliers, but the quality is outstanding. I was shocked when I received them. Please keep up the good work.

Plant arrived in excellent condition and almost as tall as my tank.
Roots already appearing on the stems and no sign of melting so already good for making cuttings. Lower leaves are large and green while the newer leaves closer to the water surface and light are an attractive brownish red. Seems to be a fast grower which I required for an empty area in my tank. I dose seachem fertilisers and liquid CO2 and my tank temperature is at 25 C. Very pleased with this plant.

    Product FAQs

    Helpful details before you buy.

    Does Ludwigia rubin need CO2?

CO2 is recommended for compact growth and vivid ruby-red colouration. Without it the plant tends to become more olive-green and less compact.

What light level does it need?

Medium to bright light gives the best results. In low light the red colouration fades significantly.

How demanding is it compared to other red Ludwigia?

It sits in the middle of the range — more colour-dependent on good conditions than standard repens, but generally less demanding than glandulosa or inclinata Cuba.

How do I get the reddest colour?

Medium to bright light, CO2, and iron-rich fertiliser used together will produce the most vivid ruby-red colouration.

    How do I propagate it?

Trim stems and replant cuttings in the substrate. Regular trimming keeps internodes short and encourages vivid new growth.
