    Description

Cryptocoryne amicorum is a rare and attractive Cryptocoryne producing medium-sized leaves with a pleasantly wavy edge that gives the plant more visual interest than flat-leaved Crypt species. It typically reaches 15–25cm in height and is suited to midground positioning. Less commonly available than mainstream Crypts like wendtii, it's a worthwhile addition for collectors building a diverse Crypt selection.

Care is the same as most Crypts: plant in substrate, low light, no CO2 required. Root tabs encourage faster establishment. Temporary leaf melt can follow a change in conditions — leave the rhizome in place and new growth will emerge.

Plant roots in the substrate without burying the crown. Spreads slowly via runners over time.

    Product FAQs

    Helpful details before you buy.

    What is 'crypt melt'?

When moved to a new environment, Cryptocoryne sometimes dissolve their leaves. This is normal — leave the rhizome in place and new leaves will regrow within a few weeks.

    Is amicorum hard to find?

Yes — it's less commonly stocked than mainstream Crypts. A good addition if you're building a diverse Cryptocoryne collection.

    Does it need CO2?

No — grows without CO2. A nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs are more beneficial.

    How do I plant it?

Plant the roots in the substrate without burying the crown.

    What size does it reach?

Typically 15–25cm in height — good for midground positioning in most aquariums.
