FAQs
Potted aquarium plants are mature, fully rooted plants sold in small pots of aquatic growing media. They arrive ready to plant directly into your aquascape and give instant visual impact. They range from easy beginner species like Anubias and Java Fern to demanding varieties like Rotala that need high light and CO2.
Our bestselling potted plants are Anubias, Java Fern, Cryptocoryne, and Amazon Sword — all hardy, easy-care species that work in beginner setups and advanced scapes alike. They're popular because they're reliable: they grow without CO2, tolerate variable lighting, and establish quickly. For specialist colour and form, Rotala and Ludwigia varieties also sell well among experienced aquascapers.
Yes, all potted aquarium plants arrive fully rooted and ready to plant. The roots are well-established, so the plants settle into your aquascape quickly and don't experience the lag that young plantlets do.
Remove the plant from the pot and gently tease away the rock wool or growing media from the roots — don't strip it completely, just loosen it so the roots can spread into your substrate. Plant at the same depth as it was in the pot, and use aquascaping tweezers if the plant is delicate. Bury the roots but leave the crown (where roots meet stem) at or slightly above the substrate.
